We completely updated an old, cramped beach cottage that felt dark and outdated. Our goal was to make it bright, comfortable, and easy to live in year-round while keeping the relaxed coastal style.
Before
The original cottage felt dark, outdated, and disjointed. Low ceilings, heavy wood paneling, small windows, worn carpet, and inefficient layouts made spaces feel small and closed-off. The kitchen was cramped, bathrooms were basic, and overall design lacked breezy, coastal feel owners wanted.
What We Did
-
Raised ceilings throughout to create a more open and airy feel, using shiplap and beadboard for a classic coastal look.
-
Replaced small windows with larger, energy-efficient ones to flood every room with natural light and ocean views.
-
Opened up floor plan by removing walls between kitchen, living, and dining areas for seamless flow.
-
Installed wide-plank white oak flooring and a fresh neutral color palette with soft blues, whites, and sandy beiges.
-
Designed a bright, functional kitchen with white shaker cabinets, blue subway tile backsplash, and a large island with bar seating.
-
Added custom built-ins, hidden storage, and multifunctional furniture to maximize space in cozy cottage layout.
-
Renovated all bathrooms with modern fixtures, frameless glass showers, and coastal-inspired tile and vanities.
-
Created a cozy loft bedroom and bunk room with built-in storage and nautical accents for family and guests.
-
Built a charming outdoor deck with string lights, dining area, and direct access to kitchen for indoor-outdoor living.
-
Curated decor with natural textures, nautical elements, and pops of blue and coral for a relaxed, beachy vibe.
The Result
The cottage now feels light, spacious, and perfectly suited for beach living. Every room is bright and inviting, layout flows effortlessly, and coastal charm is infused in every detail. It's a true year-round retreat that captures relaxed essence of seaside living while being comfortable and practical.
