We turned a dark, compartmentalized living space into a bright, open, and sophisticated great room that seamlessly connects with kitchen, dining, and outdoor areas.
Before
The original space was closed off with solid walls, heavy dark trim, small windows, and a dated fireplace. The layout felt cramped and disconnected, with limited natural light and no real flow to adjacent rooms or outdoors.
What We Did
-
Opened up floor plan by removing interior walls and installing massive black-framed steel-and-glass doors to flood space with natural light and connect it to outdoors.
-
Introduced reclaimed wood beams across high ceiling to add rustic warmth and architectural drama.
-
Built a stunning stacked-stone fireplace wall with integrated TV and custom shelving niches for a bold focal point.
-
Installed wide-plank hardwood flooring and a neutral, textured palette of creamy whites, soft taupes, and natural wood tones.
-
Added layered lighting: recessed cans, custom chandeliers, and wall sconces to create ambiance day and night.
-
Furnished with oversized, comfortable seating in luxurious neutrals, accented with natural textures, live plants, and curated art.
-
Created seamless flow into kitchen and dining area with wide, open archways framed in reclaimed wood.
The Result
The great room now feels dramatically larger, brighter, and more connected. Sunlight pours in through oversized glass doors, reclaimed beams add character, and stone fireplace serves as a warm, modern focal point. The space effortlessly transitions into kitchen and dining areas, creating a perfect open-plan hub for family life and entertaining.
