This project started as a raw, under-construction shell and ended as a calm, bright great room with a dining area that feels intentional—not just “a table in a corner.” We focused on clean lines, warm textures, and a layout that supports real life: everyday meals, hosting, and relaxing in the same space without visual clutter.
Before
The “before” space was essentially a blank canvas: exposed framing, visible structure, and no defined zones. Without finished surfaces or lighting, it was hard to picture where dining would live, how seating would orient, or how the room would feel once complete.
-
Open framing and unfinished ceilings/walls.
-
No dedicated dining zone—everything competed for the same footprint.
-
Limited visual warmth and no layered lighting for evening use.
The Design Direction
We leaned into a modern, airy look with warm wood accents. The goal was to keep the room bright and minimal, while adding just enough character (beams, statement lighting, and custom storage) to make it feel finished and high-end—without being loud.
What We Did
-
Defined the dining zone inside the open plan. We positioned the dining area as a focal point so it naturally connects to the living space but still feels like its own “room.”
-
Installed decorative ceiling beams for warmth and rhythm. The beams bring architectural character and help the long ceiling feel more intentional and balanced.
-
Added a modern chandelier centered over the table. A statement fixture anchors the dining area and creates comfortable, flattering light for meals and entertaining.
-
Created a strong feature wall with a fireplace + media moment. The fireplace wall gives the room a clear visual anchor and makes the seating layout feel natural and inviting.
-
Built a sleek storage/display wall for function and style. The tall cabinetry provides hidden storage, display space, and a clean, custom look that reduces everyday clutter.
-
Kept finishes cohesive for a calm, high-end feel. Light walls, warm wood tones, and simple furniture shapes keep the space bright while still feeling comfortable.
Result
The finished space feels bright, modern, and quietly elegant. The dining area now has a true destination vibe—centered, comfortable, and ready for hosting— while the living zone stays cozy and grounded around the fireplace feature. Overall, it reads like a custom great room instead of a wide-open catch-all.
